Affiliate marketing is the practice of marketing other people or companies products or services on the internet. You then get paid a commission for your efforts. It is one of the most popular ways of making money online today.
For those new to the idea of internet marketing, there are a few things to get to know first. These are the keys to affiliate marketing success.
1) Someone interested in affiliate marketing must be willing to invest time and effort into building their new business. The desired outcome will not happen overnight. There might not be immediate results, but consistency and determination do produce positive results.
Most people come across the information on the web through inputting their keywords on their favorite search engine. CPA (Cost Per Action) offers are no exception. Individuals will be directed to Cost Per Action web page from those keyword phrases.
Properly conducted keyword research, may be the difference between Cost Per Action victory or total failure. With cost per action marketing, sizeable keywords lists is your best option.
Amazon and eBay will no longer be paying commissions to affiliates who refer from sites like Twitter and Facebook. Both sites and their affiliate programs have recently made modifications to their terms of service reflecting these changes.
The eBay Partner Network (EPN) issued the following statement on their blog on July 17th:
Publishers may only place links and/or promotional content on sites they own. Affiliate links on third party sites such as Craigslist, MySpace, etc. are not allowed.
Also, eBay will no longer compensate if the referrer is blank:
You will not redirect any traffic to middle servers for the sole purpose of masking your referring source of traffic. This includes the use of URL shortening services (including but not limited to tinyurl.com, short.to and cloakedlink.com).
Many of the Amazon and eBay affiliates have been angered by these recent changes. It is obviously an attempt by these companies to combat fraud and reduce invalid payments but in the process they are killing the relationships they have with legitimate publishers.
The saga continues as Amazon continues to deal with states wanting to charge the mega-retailer sales tax on its purchases. The states are continuing to claim that because Amazon has affiliate marketers in their states that they in fact have a physical presence in that state.

I have to give credit to affiliate marketers. They are clever if nothing else. If there is a loophole or a way to get information out to the masses they will find it.
I use Google news on a daily basis to track stories on a wide array of topics, one of which is the affiliate marketing industry. Recently I have noticed that some affiliate marketers have been issuing press releases through PR services to promote their links. While this walks the line of spam and abuse I have to admit that I am kicking myself for not thinking of it first. For a fee of about $50 you can get your links onto major syndicated news sources like Google News and have your offers appear in a trustworthy fashion to a huge audience. Its a very simple and cheap way to market to the masses.
